How to use our new ELPS logo
Logos are about establishing a consistent look - as Dr. Chapin would say, we need to show everyone we play for the same team. The logo redesign committee was excited that this update really reflects our strategic mission of nurturing children, educating students, and building global citizens.
There are full usage guidelines - the official guide from the designers - at the back of this section. But for us laypeople, I think the following rules will be quite enough info!
The basics:
-
Use the logo from the electronic file versions. We have approved vertical, horizontal, and centered versions of the logo. Please don't create one for yourself that is 'close' but homegrown. Electronic versions are available under the faculty link in the ELPS website.
-
Please work with Abu if you are having anything printed. He will make sure the colors are PMS 293 (the blue areas), PMS 11 (the grey areas) or black.
-
Keep a rectangular clear space around the logo (eg: no putting it in circles or crowding it).
Stationary and memos:
-
Abu is printing stationary and envelopes for central office, principals and associate principals, as well as stationary specific to each school (without a specific person/position) for use by staff. Please use this stationary rather than creating your own. Again, consistency is key.
-
For those of you who must print memos and letters directly from your computer, please use our templates so we all use the same format. The logo and address (Arial 8 pt.) is at the top, mission statement (Arial 8 pt, small caps) on the bottom. Templates for letters and memorandums are up under the Faculty link on the website.
-
When signing letters, put your name, title & dept, phone and email after your signature.
School mascots:
-
Absolutely keep your mascot but use in addition to the ELPS logo so we keep our school personality and our district identity strong. If you're using the pre-printed stationary, it can go in the margin. If your are using the online template, it can go in the upper right corner.
Web pages:
-
Jason and Christian are working on a consistent look for each school's site. It will include both the district logo/mission and your school mascot/name.
|
Some perspective: LouAnna Simon redesigned the current Michigan State logo - both the words and the "S" - a few years ago and there was reluctance, confusion and downright anger. Two years later, no one bats an eye about using the 'correct' versions. We'll have some bumps at ELPS but we'll get through it. This logo is professional, clean, up-to-date and strongly embodies our mission of Nurturing each child● Educating all students● Building world citizens. |
